Introduction
Incoming Student Mobility – Erasmus+ Blended Summer School "Near-Surface Geophysics on Mud Volcanoes"
Physical mobility: 26 August – 4 September 2026 | University of Camerino, Italy
14 students from Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) and Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), Venezuela
The University of Camerino welcomed 14 students from its Venezuelan partner universities, Universidad Simón Bolívar (USB) and Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV), for an Erasmus+ KA171 Blended Summer School focused on near-surface geophysics and its applications to geological investigations.
The programme combined virtual activities before and after the physical mobility with lectures, practical training and fieldwork at UNICAM. During their stay, students gained hands-on experience with geophysical instruments and methodologies, including seismic, electrical and gravimetric surveys, particularly at the mud volcanoes of Monteleone di Fermo, followed by data processing and interpretation sessions.
As part of the programme, students also participated in the Italy–Venezuela Workshop on Seismic Hazard and Resilience: From Active Tectonics to Seismic Microzonation, held at UNICAM from 26 to 28 August 2026. The workshop brought together Italian and Venezuelan academics and experts to discuss seismic hazard, local seismic response, risk mitigation and community resilience, combining scientific presentations with practical sessions.
The Summer School also included geological field excursions and opportunities for cultural exchange, allowing students to explore the Marche region and experience the local environment.
For the participating students, the Summer School represented a valuable opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in real field conditions, gain practical experience with advanced geophysical equipment and develop new technical skills. Beyond the scientific training, the experience also encouraged teamwork, intercultural exchange and personal growth, making the mobility particularly meaningful for their academic and professional development.
