Introduction

This project focuses its attention on 2 main aims: structure a more institutional and comprehensive cooperation with Israeli HEIs (namely Tel-Hai College THC, Bar-Ilan University BIU, Hebrew University of Jerusalem HUJ and Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design BAAD) and strengthen the partnershipalready set during the KA107/20 with UNICAM main Jordanian partner (Applied Science Private University ASU).

THC is a leading HEI in the Galilee region (Northern Israel), encouraging knowledge and human capital development, excellence, entrepreneurship, and innovation, and acting as a driver for the whole Israeli society development. Academiccooperation between UNICAM and THC started more than 8 years ago. In addition to overall objectives such as the increase of institutions’ internationalization, the project will wider research and didactic cooperation in the field of nutrition and ageing. These field are in fact one of the topics of the future considering the population ageing of both Countries (and of the EU in general).

BIU, founded in 1955, is one of Israel's leading HEIs, uniquely combining cutting-edge scientific research with education steeped in Jewish values and social responsibility. BIU is collaborating with over 90 HEIs across 26 EU countries, even in the framework of E+ Programme. The cooperation within the KA171 aligns closely with the strategic research goals of both institutions, particularly in the fields of genomics, gene expression in the immune system, health and disease, molecular biology, and nutrigenomics, under the lent of a strong and shared commitment to holistic healthcare research.

HUJI is Israel’s top HEI, ranked among the world’s 100 leading universities. With its 315 academic departments, HUJI is a leader in bringing about change in the global community, through its groundbreaking research in fields such as agriculture, environmental quality, and public health. HUJI shares common fields of didactic and research with UNICAM, namely genomics and bioinformatics, biotechnology, sciences, veterinary, pharmacy, and law. The academic cooperation between UNICAM and HUJI started in 2016 in the field of nutrigenomics and continued with professors’ exchanges on common research topics. Now the 2 HEIs want to make a step further structuring an Institutional cooperation that embraces both Biosciences and Pharmacy areas.

BAAD, established in 1906, is known for its excellence in educating and enriching generations of aspiring artists, designers and architects; and for inspiring original thought, furthering tolerance and for promoting freedom of expression and creative liberty that expand cultural horizons and impact conventional beliefs. The academic relationship between BAAD and UNICAM started in 2004. Over the years the cooperation has been maintained with a focus on ecological products’ development, energy saving, circular design and safety projects in case of environmental risk. This project will create a permanent bridge between BAAD and UNICAM School of Architecture and Design, allowing the deepening of common research on the topics listed above.

Reports and Pictures

- Incoming Staff Mobility for Teaching and Training, Prof.ssa Efrat Monsonego Ornan from HUJI to UNICAM
Prof. Monsonego Ornan delivered a four-hour lecture in the Molecular Biology course for master's students in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology at UNICAM. The course focused on skeletal development and structure, exploring the role of nutrition in bone health through topics such as the use of animal models, the impact of ultra-processed foods, and the influence of the microbiome. She also participated in a meeting with PhD students to discuss topics of their interest and presented a seminar on the relationship between nutrition and bone development. Finally, she visited the chemistry department to meet the staff, learn about ongoing projects, and explore future collaborations.

- Incoming Staff Mobility for Training, Prof.re Ram Reifen from HUJI to UNICAM

The professor arrived with two colleagues from the Hebrew University and engaged in discussions with PhD students and researchers on topics related to food and nutrition. Doctoral students and researchers in nutrigenomics, pharmacology, nutrition, and food sciences presented their work, exploring potential collaborations. He visited the facilities in Camerino to understand their practical applications and dedicated the last day to planning future collaborations, including applications for EU grants. He also gave a seminar on plant and alternative proteins, sparking discussions throughout the week, and participated in a session where students asked questions about academic career planning.
