Introduction
The McGill University (McGill), founded in 1821 in Montreal, Quebec, is one of the top public universities in Canada, being ranked 49th in World University Rankings 2024. McGill is known for attracting the brightest students from around the world, representing about 30% of the student body. Research at the university takes place at more than 40° research centres and, among them, the Chemistry Department is structured around 5 themes illustrating the interdisciplinary nature of research, focused on developing new and efficient methods to synthesise organic molecules and new sustainable materials.
The Laval University (ULaval), in Quebec, traces its origins back to the Séminaire de Québec founded in 1663, and over the years, has shaped the history and course of postsecondary education on the continent, officially becoming a university in 1852. ULaval maintains strong international ties through its partnerships and offers a wealth of student internship and mobility opportunities. In the Faculty of Science and Engineering, particularly relevant is the Department of Chemistry, which is active in many cutting-edge research areas, including organic, inorganic, and medicinal chemistry, environmental analysis, materials chemistry, and supramolecular chemistry.
Dalhousie University (DAL) is a member of the “U15” group of Universities in Canada (the top 15 research-intensive universities). It encompasses 13 Faculties and more than 95 academic departments, schools, and programs. Its programs attract top students from across the country and worldwide. DAL and its affiliated teaching hospitals (the IWK Research Centre: IWK) provide an exceptional health research environment and highly qualified personnel. The relevance of the new partnership the 2 HEIs would like to start,
stands in strengthening research activities on the Drosophila in vivo model, to explore innovative pathways that, through the communication and regulation networks between microbiota-gut-brain, could be involved in the risk and pathogenesis of NDs.
